A SNEAK PEEK INTO MY LIFE

Welcome to my little home on the web. I hope you feel encouraged, as well as find some information on what you are looking for while you are here. You can find my writings, workshops I teach, as well as scheduling for counseling or therapy intensives. I am a wife, mom, grandma (Honey!), daughter, sister, counselor, writer, teacher, mentor, and friend. I began walking with Christ my junior year at Texas A&M and have found the love of Christ to be my truth north, navigating seasons of spiritual passion and debilitating doubts.

My first job out of college was in marketing, and then I spent over a decade raising our 3 littles. During their elementary years, I was the director/teacher of a women’s in-depth Bible study ministry, Community Bible Study. I ended my time leading that ministry to start my next adventure: grad school in my 40’s! I began commuting an hour away to graduate school 3 nights a week with 3 preteens/teens. I began working full-time as a Licensed Professional Counselor during our daughter’s sophomore year of college at A&M Christian Counseling Center. I opened my own private practice in 2015.

I enjoy laughing and playing games, a good cup of coffee with friends, camping in our vintage teardrop camper, reading, running, hanging with our family, taking long walks with our golden retriever, and beach and mountain vacations. I love having fun, but I take my role as a counselor very seriously. I am an active member of Texas Counseling Association (TCA). In 2019, I became a trauma-informed therapist due to my in-depth training in EMDR. EMDR therapy is an 8 Phase, integrative trauma treatment therapy that helps people heal from traumatic events, as well as life disturbing experiences. EMDR therapy is evidenced-based and is considered a recommended treatment of choice by several international mental health organizations for healing PTSD from traumatic events such as rape, sexual abuse, auto accidents, and combat. It is also highly effective with all forms of anxiety, depression, and other difficult disturbances.

I spend my days guiding people through the deep waters of their sacred stories. I call myself a Soul Adventurer, unafraid of journeying into the messy terrain of wounded souls. I’ve named my blog “Soul Adventurer” for that very reason. My vision is to walk with people to find healing, wholeness, and hope.

a LITTLE ABOUT ME

I am ecstatic to be in my mid-50’s, firmly believing the more life stages I face, the more funny stories I have to tell! I have been married 31 years to the love of my life, Chris. We are the best of friends and he loves me well. We moved to Huntsville 9 years ago after living in Bryan/College Station for 11 years. We have three incredible adult children, one amazing son-in-law and daughter-in-law, one grand daughter, and one beautiful golden retriever (Prince Caspian), who almost certainly counts as a kid! Our oldest, Madison, graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a Communication Theory degree in 2016, married Garrett in 2017, and they are now living in the east Texas area and are parents of our very first grand-baby, Nora Kate. Madison works in the travel and tourism industry and Garrett is an Irving firefighter. Landon, our oldest son, graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology of Environmental Sciences from UNT-Denton and is working in Spring as a software implementer. Colton, our youngest, graduated in May of 2020 from Baylor University as a University Scholar, with a Film and Digital Media and Journalism concentration and is the Videographer at a church in Dallas. He just got married to our amazing new daughter in-law-, Alyssa, who is getting her PHD at UT Southwestern in Clinical Psychology. They were married in November!

MY VISION

I consider it one of the greatest privileges of my life to walk with people into their hurt, pain, confusion, and disappointment. My vision is to provide trauma-informed, Christ-centered, holistic, and insightful professional counseling in order to help people find HOPE and to:

move beyond brokenness and pain..... into healing.

move beyond unhealthy attachments and bondage..... into freedom.

move beyond resentment and anger..... into acceptance and peace.

move beyond toxic and dysfunctional relational patterns.....into healthy and life-giving relationship with God and others.

move beyond despair.... into hope.
